Cash for clunkers appliances

Just read a great article in Consumer Reports online that says the government is giving out cash for clunkers for appliances. Might be worth checking out. Apparently varies by state.

Dolphins beached at Jeremy Inlet

January 27th, 2010 admin No comments

Unbelievable! 2 dolphins were caught in Jeremy Inlet at 8:30 a.m. with the tide going out. Concerned Edistonians Ashlyn Posten, Doug Henley and friends ho happened to be at the inlet ran and got tarps, rolled the dolphins onto them and dragged them out the inlet to the ocean. As Ashlyn said, she didn’t have her camera or cell phone. The porpoise just looked at her as if to say Thank You. Maybe some things are just so special its not for everyone.

Wyndham Ocean Ridge; Palmetto Walks

January 23rd, 2010 admin No comments

Last night around 2:30 a fire started in the 2nd building of the Palmetto Walk Villas on Sea Cloud Circle. Units 334 – 341 were damaged. 2 of the units had families living in them and another had an owner. Thankfully, no one was injured but I think the entire building is destroyed. I have attempted to contact all owners in this building. If anyone needs help in this building, call on me.

Point of Sale Tax

January 23rd, 2010 admin No comments

I am attaching an eletter that I received from the South Carolina Association of Realtors Action Center. If you own property in South Carolina and aare interested in Point of Sale Legislation, knew you would be interested.
Point of Sale — Debate Begins

The South Carolina Senate convenes again on Tuesday, January 26 at 12:00 pm. Our battle to have point of sale addressed is moving forward quickly. Last week, the Senate gave second reading to the resolution ahead of H.3272 and moved on to debate of H.3272. SCR rejected the proposed compromise to H. 3272 that was offered, as we have consistently called for broad-based reform regarding point of sale assessments. The proposed compromise did not meet that premise.

Local governments are using the rejection of the compromise to their advantage in an attempt to stymie point of sale reform. We must send the message to Senators that this issue cannot be ignored, and SC REALTORS® will not relent!

Contact your Senator and ask him to vote yes on H.3272. When you have responded to this call to action, please use the Tell-a-Friend option on the thank you page to alert your colleagues, clients and friends. It’s time to flood the Senate with emails!

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):
Your State Senator (if you live in South Carolina)

Below is the sample letter:

Subject: Approve Point of Sale Legislation

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

The time to act on point of sale legislation is NOW! The current point of sale tax allows local governments to dramatically increase property taxes on homes, land and businesses when they are sold. It’s unfair and is hurting our state’s economy. Here are the facts: Point of sale assessment results in disparate property tax burden between neighboring properties, higher office and store rental costs for South Carolina businesses, higher rents for non-homeowners, increased pricing on the goods and services South Carolinians enjoy, disincentives to transfer property, inequitable tax burdens based on whether a property has transferred, and property devaluation. All of this forces businesses looking to locate in South Carolina to take their investment and jobs elsewhere. Hundreds of millions of dollars of commercial investment in South Carolina has been lost since Act 388 took effect. T hat’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Do not burden families and businesses any more with this flawed law. The point of sale tax is unfair for individuals and for the state. Please stop the Unfair Tax today and pass House Bill 3272.
